This is the KiSS 100.5 Mornings Podcast for Friday June 29th.

Today is the last day of school and there’s a heat warning in effect so find some good air conditioning!

The heat warning is calling for humidex values to get into the plus 40 range thanks to hot humid air moving up from the Gulf of Mexico.

Extreme heat affects everyone.  The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors. Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.  If you have to be out today, make sure you have good sunscreen on, that you cover up and stay hydrated.

It’s been 25 years since the Soo Greyhounds won the Memorial Cup in 1993 and there’s a big party coming up to celebrate the anniversary and you’re invited.

25 years ago in 1993, the Soo Greyhounds won the Memorial Cup.  Players, staff and team officials from the ’93 championship team are getting back together in Sault Ste. Marie for a 25th reunion celebration. The reunion includes dinner and a reception at the Marconi on Friday July 20th. It’s open to everyone and you can get your ticket for the dinner at Source for Sports on Queen and at the Marconi.

It’s only $30 per person and it’s going to be a great night.  The reunion’s being organized by Mark Matier who played defence on the 93 team.  Now Mark lives and works in the Sault and he does colour on the Shaw TV broadcasts with Gino Cavallo.  For more information, contact Mark Matier at matier2@hotmail.com

Drake has dropped it’s fifth album.  It’s called Scorpion and, thanks to sales of the singles Nice for What and God’s Plan, it was already eligible to be certified platinum as soon as it was released.  One of the things about the new album is that he acknowledges that he is the father of a child named Adonis on one of the tracks

Alessia Cara will be taking the stage at the iHeartRadio M-M-V-A’s this August. Cara is in the first round of performers confirmed for the big Toronto street party, along with Halsey and masked electronic producer Marshmello, who will perform “Friends” with British singer Anne-Marie. Cara co-hosted last year with Joe Jonas.

Kristen Wiig doesn’t look much like a villain in a photo released for the upcoming “Wonder Woman 1984.” Director Patty Jenkins has tweeted out the first look at Wiig as Wonder Woman’s foe, Cheetah. Wiig is dressed as the bookish Barbara Minerva, the mortal who morphs into a powerful nemesis. Fans will have to wait until November 2019 to see Wiig take on Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman.

Gordon Lightfoot is giving Toronto’s Massey Hall a three-night send-off as the historic venue prepares for major renovations. The 79-year-old folk singer says the concert space, which he first played when he was 13, has a character all its own that “breathes” when you’re on stage. Lightfoot will play three shows this weekend before the 124-year-old concert hall closes for upgrades expected to take a couple of years.

Well Ed Sheeran is getting sued! I think it happens to every good musician sooner or later.  It seems to be a right of passage. A company that owns part of the copyright for the Marvin Gaye classic “Let’s Get it On” is suing singer Ed Sheeran. The suit claims Sheeran’s 2014 “Thinking Out Loud” rips off melody, rhythms, harmonies, drums, bass line, backing chorus, tempo, syncopation, and looping. It’s seeking more than 100-million dollars in damages.

These days, if you think Twitter, you probably think U-S President Donald Trump. And that’s why it’s a no-brainer that he’s on Time magazine’s list of the most influential people on the internet. Trump has 53-million Twitter followers and triggers an avalanche of reactions _ pro and con _ whenever he tweets. Others on the Time list of internet movers and shakers are Kanye West, Kylie Jenner and Rihanna.

Yesterday’s Big Story Podcast and an article in Macleans are all about shopping Canadian during a trade war with the US. I’ve posted a link to both on the KiSS 100.5 Facebook page.  It’s a Patriot’s guide to shopping during a Canda-US trade war.  And one thing  I’m finding as I read through the thing is, it’s not as simple as it seems

It talks about French’s ketchup, bottled by an American company that announced it would source its tomoatoes from the “tomato capital of Canada,” wherever that is, the tariff on Kentucky whisky and a distiller in Windsor, Florida orange juice, manufactured in Peterborough and it gets into treats, toilet paper and more.

The municipal election is October 22.  If you’re a Canadian citizen, you live here, own or rent property and you’re 18 or loder, you can vote.  If you want to find out if you’re on the list, go to voterlookup.ca, make sure you’re on the list and make sure your information is correct. Happy Canada Day.  Everything starts at the Roberta Bondar Pavillion on Sunday afternoon at 2:00.  Marci and Mustang Heart hit the stage at about 8:00 pm after Cindy Cook, Pat Maloney and the Ron Gutman Magic Show. The fireworks start just after dusk.

I’m taking a couple of weeks off, Shelley Wright will be hosting KiSS Morning’s while I’m gone.
