Sault Ste. Marie, ON (2018 08 08) – The Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council (MYAC) is looking for young persons who are passionate about making a difference in Sault Ste. Marie.
To serve on the council, youths must be between the ages of 14 and 21, reside in and are enrolled in secondary or post secondary school in Sault Ste. Marie. Youths under the age of 18 will need the consent of a parent or guardian to apply.
“MYAC is a fantastic opportunity for youth to take an active role in our community and address issues relevant to them,” said Mayor Christian Provenzano. “I continue to be impressed with the leadership our local youth demonstrate through the MYAC and initiatives such as the Youth Art Gala, Gateway Algoma and movie nights at Bellevue Park, along with supporting ARCH Hospice and the development of a Splash Pad. I encourage youth across our community to consider submitting an application.”
The MYAC term will run from September until June. Meetings will be held once a month in the evenings or after school at municipal facilities. Youths interested in applying should expect a time commitment of between eight to 13 hours per month if they are selected for the council. For high school students, time spent on council activities can be used towards community service hours that are required to graduate.
The deadline to apply is August 24. For more information, visit saultstemarie.ca/myac or phone 705-759-5312.
