The City of Sault Ste. Marie will be receiving part of its grant allocation from the province under the Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund program.
The word comes just ahead of budget deliberations for City council which is scheduled for today and tomorrow if needed.
The Province is providing our City an interim payment equivalent to the 2018 quarterly payment for January to March which works out to more than 3.8-million dollars.
The Ford government has stressed that this amount does not reflect what the City may be provided in total this year.
The province is currently reviewing the program and has already indicated to Ontario municipalities that total grant funding provided under the program will be reduced to help deal with the deficit.
There is no indication from the province when it will make a decision regarding the City’s funding level for this year.
Last year, the City was provided over 15-million dollars.
