Preliminary ideas for a downtown plaza including possible components and costing are included in a report for city council for Monday’s meeting.
The suggested components for the estimated 6.6-million dollar plaza would include amenities such as trees, benches, lighting and public art to go along with water features, a skating rink, stage and large screen.
The planned financial arrangement would put the city’s share at 3.2-million with the 3.4-million dollar balance covered through government funding and sponsorship.
As part of moving the project forward, council will be asked on Monday to approve the acquisition of property at 535 Queen Street east with the over 110-thousand dollar cost covered through the Property Purchase Reserve Fund..
The next steps forward also include hiring a consultant to assist with the detailed design and costing and it is suggested construction would begin in the spring of 2020.
