The province’s Special Investigations Unit has ruled that a man’s death at the Elliot Lake Probation and Parole Office back on April 20th was self-inflicted so there should be no criminal charges laid against any of the OPP officers involved.
That morning it is reported that a 49-year old man attended the office for a scheduled meeting.
When OPP officers arrived a few minutes later to arrest the man for having breached a release order, the man became agitated.
He asked that the officers not enter the room he was in.
Shortly thereafter, it is reported that the man shot himself with a handgun and was pronounced dead at the scene.
SIU Director Joseph Martino has determined that the man alone was responsible for his self-inflicted death.
