SAULT STE. MARIE – Despite the ongoing pandemic, St. Vincent Place is currently planning for our
tenth annual Big Blue Box Food Drive, and we’re looking for volunteers.
This year, the drive will take place on Saturday, September 19.
We are in need of volunteer driver/runner pairs with vehicles to drive the specified routes collecting
donations. While we usually accept single volunteers willing to be paired up, in order to keep all
volunteers safe and within social distancing guidelines, this year we need all drivers to have a partner who
is already within their social circle. Collection begins at 10:00 am and usually lasts from one to two
hours, depending on the route and size of your vehicle.
We’re also looking for individuals to help sort the donations once they arrive at our food bank, from
about 11:30 am to 2:00 pm. These individuals will be required to wear a mask while sorting.
For those who want to help out while getting some fresh air, we are also looking for volunteers to help
drop off flyers in mailboxes (in their own neighbourhoods or beyond) in the week leading up to the event.
This is a great way to help those in need in our community, and for high school students to collect some
volunteer hours.
Interested volunteers can contact Sara at vincentplacepr@shaw.ca, or call 705-253-2770 ext. 4. You can
also find St. Vincent Place on Facebook (@StVincentPlace) and send Sara a message there.
What is our Big Blue Box Food Drive?
The event is a one-day push to help fill our food bank for the start of winter, and it makes donating easy.
All you have to do is fill any box or bag with non-perishable goods and put it out to your curb by 10:00
am on September 19, then our volunteers come collect the donations. Helping your community doesn’t
get any easier.
