Whether you loved or hated the movie, a lot of us showed up to see the Live action remake of “The Lion King” which earned the film $1.657 Billion, so there is no surprise that we are now getting a Lion King 2.

Oscar winner Barry Jenkins who directed the 2016 film “Moonlight” has been tapped to direct the next installment of The Lion King by Disney. When asked about the film Jenkins told Deadline,

 “Helping my sister raise two young boys during the ’90s, I grew up with these characters,”

Also adding,

“Having the opportunity to work with Disney on expanding this magnificent tale of friendship, love and legacy while furthering my work chronicling the lives and souls of folk within the African diaspora is a dream come true.”

The 2019 Live action remake of “The Lion King” was written by Jeff Nathanson, who has already penned a rough draft of the script for the Lion King 2.

 

Jenkins’ partner, Lulu Wang, commemorated the news with this video.

No word on the actually title of the movie or the release date.
