Sault Ste. Marie: Students at St. Mary’s College (SMC) held a clothing drive over a two week period
this month with the donations going to St. Vincent Place.
The Grade 12 religion class organized the drive as a community service project called SMC Action.
The drive started on Tuesday, October 13th and concluded today, Friday, October 23rd.
“I am very proud of my students for their commitment and dedication to this worthwhile initiative. They
did it all, everything from organizing, advertising, collection, folding, sorting and boxing all the clothes.
I just gave them the opportunity to do something good for our community and they ran with it,” said
SMC Teacher, Rob Calvano.
“I am very honoured and grateful to receive the opportunity to give back to our community through this
charitable cause,” said Makayla Muncaster.
The clothing items collected from students, family, and staff included apparel for men, women and
children.
“I’m glad that we were able to help those in need in our community during this pandemic,” said Lucas
Serenelli.
“I enjoyed doing SMC Action because it was a great experience, knowing that we could help those in
need even though we are in this pandemic,” Lily Masse.
All Covid-19 protocols set out by Algoma Public Health were followed. Clothes were washed prior to
collection, and then sat for more than 72 hours before students sorted, folded and boxed the items.
