Sault Ste. Marie- November 1, 2020 – The Freedom Sisters of Sault Ste. Marie are proud to announce the return of our annual Shine the Light on Woman Abuse Campaign and contest!
November is Woman Abuse Awareness/Prevention month in Ontario, and Freedom Sisters of Sault Ste. Marie is once again taking part in the Shine the Light campaign, which works to raise awareness of violence against women by turning communities purple for the month of November.
We are asking our community to help us reach our goal and colour the town purple this month! Replace your porch bulbs, put out some purple string lights, paint a purple bulb on your window, make purple cupcakes, or any other creative way you choose to show your community that you stand behind survivors of abuse and domestic violence.
After you’ve completed your purple decor, be sure to send a photo of the transformation to the Freedom Sisters Facebook page for a chance to win a $100 gift card, one for an individual and a separate one for businesses.
The colour purple is a symbol of courage, survival and honour, and has come to symbolize the fight to end woman abuse. We wish to demonstrate that we stand in solidarity with abused women and support them in understanding that any shame and/or blame they may feel does not belong to them but to the perpetrators of their abuse.
Freedom Sisters of Sault Ste. Marie’s mandate is to educate the community about abuse from a survivor’s perspective, and has been serving Sault Ste. Marie for 10 years.
