CHIPPEWA County, Michigan – As our county has seen, COVID-19 cases are rising at an
alarming rate. As of 9:00 a.m. today, we have 473 cases, 98 of those cases are considered
recovered. The most tragic of these numbers are the two associated deaths.
Jim German, Chippewa County Administrator, and Karen Senkus, Health Officer for Chippewa
County Health Department, want to remind everyone that as a community, we need to remember
some of the reasons we choose to reside and raise families in the Upper Peninsula. We are a
community of hard-working people who are always willing to lend a hand to those in need, to
assist neighbors and strangers, and the elderly person living alone. Unfortunately, right now, we
are not showing the rest of Michigan what makes us a strong community and great place to live.
We are putting ourselves and our wants first, before others. Our lack of compassion for others is
why we are seeing the explosive number of cases in Chippewa county.
Now is the time for us to come together and really work to protect each and every member of our
community. From the elderly man or woman, to the youngest newborn. While we all believe,
“it won’t happen to me or my loved ones,” it may. That’s why we are urging you to please limit
gatherings, WEAR THE MASK, and wash your hands!
