Sorry to be a Grinch, but you will need to take out a loan if you are thinking of buying up the full list of items in the ’12 Days of Christmas’ this year.
According to the ‘Annual Christmas Price Index‘ (yes that is a real thing put together by PNC) it will cost over $41,000 for the full run down of gifts.
The PNC, who has been keeping tabs on how much the 12 items will cost since 1984, says the index is up almost six per cent this season, the biggest jump since 2013. Last year, the list would only cost you a measly $16,000.

Although the majority of us won’t be shelling out $40K on gifts this season, according to Deloitte Canada’s 2021 Holiday Retail Outlook, the average Canadian could be spending more this year on presents. The report found that we are expected to spend an estimated $1,841 on the holidays, an increase of 31 per cent compared with 2020 and eight per cent above 2019.
