If your birthday is in the summertime, you are one lucky duck. Researchers say those born during the warmest months are more likely to be healthy than those born during other times of year. Researchers studied almost half a million British adults, and found that babies born in June, July, and August were heavier at birth and taller as adults. The thought is at mothers who get more sun during pregnancy pass on higher quantities of vitamin D to their unborn child, making them healthier. The data shows that girls born during summer started puberty later, an indication of better health in adult life. Children born in autumn and winter were found to be more likely to have food allergies, and those born in autumn were found to be more at risk for asthma. Study author Dr. John Perry adds, “We don’t know the mechanisms that cause these seasons of birth patterns [as far as] birth weight, height, and puberty timing. We need to understand these mechanisms before our findings can be translated into health benefits.” (Daily Mail) (Image: Pixabay.com)
