In response to poor market conditions, Essar Steel Algoma will be laying off about 100 employees.  The company’s Manager of Corporate Communication Brenda Stenta says market conditions are such that they cannot continue to sustain operations at the current level.  She says they are curtailing costs and flexing production levels to match demand.  Stenta says it will mean a temporary layoff and it will be in the range of 100 employees as of Monday.  The company continue to assess further impacts and alternatives and will make the necessary adjustments to weather this cycle she concludes in an email.
