(Sault Ste. Marie, ON) The City of Sault Ste. Marie is announcing a unique opportunity for local artists. Artists are being asked to submit designs that will be transferred to vinyl wraps and applied to twelve traffic boxes located in the city’s downtown core.
“As co-chair of City Council’s Community Committee on Graffiti, I am excited about the traffic box wrap initiative. This is a terrific opportunity to showcase the creative ability of local artists and beautify our city at the same time,” said Susan Myers, Ward 2 Councillor.
This Call for Entry is open to all artists working in a broad range of media, including painters, photographers, collage artists, graffiti artists, etc., and who are residents of Sault Ste. Marie and the surrounding area. Successful Artists will receive a $500 honorarium per Successful Design to cover materials and supplies.
The deadline to submit applications is 4 p.m., Friday, October 30, 2015. Additional information, including the application package, is available on the City website at saultstemarie.ca/trafficboxwrap or by calling 705-541-7175.
City Council established a Graffiti Task Force in an effort to combat nuisance tagging throughout the community. In an effort to fulfill this mandate, the City has established this competition to deter “tags” that often appear on traffic boxes and engage local artists to beautify the boulevards of Sault Ste. Marie.
