City council has given the go ahead to proceed with major work on Bay Street this construction season.
The project involves the partial reconstruction and resurfacing of Bay Street including reducing the number of lanes from 4 to 2 and providing significant streetscaping improvements.
Both Mayor Christian Provenzano and Ward 1 Councillor Paul Christian expressed disappointment at last night’s meeting that the City received only one bid when the project was put out to tender and there wasn’t a competitive process with multiple bids.
The work will be done by Pioneer Construction at a total cost of 7.5 million.
The work will involve the intermittent partial closure of Bay Street beginning today through until October 31st.
