The Ontario Energy Board has given its approval for Hydro One to purchase Great Lakes Power Transmission which operates 15 transmission stations and 560 kilometres of transmission lines north and east of Sault Ste. Marie.
The former provincial Crown corporation says it’ll pay 222-million dollars in cash and assume 151-million dollars of debt owed by Great Lakes.
Great Lakes is operated by a subsidiary of Toronto based Brookfield Infrastructure.
Great Lakes will begin to operate under the name Hydro One Sault Ste. Marie early in the new year and its expected that the transaction will close on October 31st.
