Women Cougars Make School History with Hard Fought 3-2 Win.

The Sault College Woman’s soccer team participated in their first ever OCAA outdoor soccer match at home this past weekend. The Woman played the Centennial College Colts at the Superior Heights pitch. The Cougars beat the Colts 3 to 2 in an exciting hard fought match for the College’s first ever OCAA soccer win in their inaugural season.
The team demonstrated good chemistry despite several players playing different positions throughout the match. The Cougar’s first ever goal was scored by Sarah Ferguson on a beautiful cross by Taryn Gazankas who scored both of the next two goals. Gazankas first goal at the 65th minute to tie the game was a beauty from the top of the 18 yard box and she followed this up with the game winner on a penalty shot in the 85th minute. The defense held strong all game and made it difficult for the Colts to get away quality shots. When the Colts were able to break through the back line goal keeper Mikaela Caputo was there with some tremendous saves to ensure a Cougar victory.
The team head East next weekend to face Algonquin College in Ottawa on Sat at 1:00pm and then to St. Lawrence College in Kingston on Sun. at 1:00pm

Sault College Men’s Soccer Team Lose a Tight 1-0 Contest to Centennial College

On Saturday September 8th, the Cougars men’s soccer team hit the home pitch for their first game of the season where they faced the Centennial Colts. The Cougars were led by Brett Davie who controlled the mid-field all game.

“He really took charge of the team and helped to communicate to our younger players, that is why he is the leader of this team” said Joe Ceglia; Head Coach of the Cougars.

The Colts took the lead just before the half on a miscommunication between the keeper and the defense and they never relinquished it despite numerous surges from the Cougars. Overall it a fantastic result for the Cougars who are new to the OCAA in soccer this year and are playing against much bigger schools like Centennial.

Ceglie went on to say that, “…….. this team deserved at least a point today as they worked so hard. They are very young but have tons of speed and talent and as soon as they learn how to use it properly they will be dangerous group.”

The Cougars will be back in action on September 14th at 3:15pm, where they will face Algonquin Thunder in their first away game of the season. On September 15th, they will make their way to Kingston, where they will take on the St. Lawrence Vikings at 3:15pm.
