MNRMNR2DNR The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forests says there are currently 24 active fires in the northeast region with 4 of them not under control.  One that is under control and is new is Sault Ste. Marie 8 at .1 hectares.  The fire hazard is considered high to extreme for most of the region.  An area from Sault Ste. Marie to Greater Sudbury continues to be under an extreme hazard.
Meantime, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources reports that many portions of the state are seeing high to a very high fire danger.  The conditions are expected to remain that way for the next few days and into the weekend.  A fire prevention specialist with the DNR says that fire activity has picked up over the past few days.
