Donations to SSM United Way and AU Food Pantry

(SAULT STE. MARIE, ON – October 31, 2019): Algoma University’s 7th annual Community Trick or Treat was a huge success, with amazing costumes, thousands of participants, and generous donations to both the United Way and the Algoma U Food Pantry. The new fully accessible route was a resounding success, showcasing the entire campus to all the ghosts and goblins in attendance.

“Our community is astounding,” said Asima Vezina, President and Vice-Chancellor of Algoma University. “The line didn’t stop all evening- everyone came together to celebrate the spirit of the season while generously supporting two very worthwhile causes; the United Way and our Food Pantry. We love hosting this event and welcoming so many people onto our campus.”

Last night, close to 3,100 community members participated in the event, trick-or-treating over 20 stations located across AU’s campus. The event raised over $5,100 for the United Way while just over 1,300 non-perishable food items were donated to the Algoma U Food Pantry.

The University would like to extend their sincere thanks to the community for their generosity and support. Algoma would also like to thank Sault Ste. Marie Mayor, Christian Provenzano, the Sault Ste. Marie Professional Firefighters Association, and volunteers from the United Way who helped assist with the success of the evening.
