Almost 400 children attended the Bell Celebrity Skate presented by Agero with the Sault Greyhounds on November 26. The results are in! Those hardworking young skaters raised $43,778 for Rotary Youth Projects.
This year’s top individual fundraiser was Kristiana Aubertin, who raised $830.25 and won an Apple iPad. Prizes were distributed to the top 43 individual fundraisers, and 72 participants raised over $150 and received a ticket to a Sault Greyhounds game.
“This was once again a great event,” shared Rotarian and event co-chair Mark Lepore, “The participants all really enjoyed skating with the Soo Greyhounds and it was great to see.”
Of the hockey and sports teams that participated, 16 won bowling parties. The top fundraising hockey group, Novice Major Rome’s Tigers ($2,183.10 raised), and the top fundraising non-hockey group, Sault YMCA Gymnastics ($1,410.00 raised), will also receive pool parties for their teams.
For over 100 years, the Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie has fostered service, leadership, and good works in our community. Founded in 1918, the club’s mandate to support children with physical disabilities has been the heart behind the efforts of hundreds of Rotarians spanning generations. Rotary invests in the Sault’s youth through Rotary Youth Exchange, Rotary Science Fair Algoma, Rotary Sports Awards Dinner, scholarships, local projects such as the Rotary Adventure Playground, and partnerships with Easter Seals Ontario and THRIVE. Every year, the Rotary club hosts tens of thousands of people at community-building events, including ROTARYFEST, The Sault’s Summer Festival! It is only because of dedicated Rotarians, tireless volunteers, and our extremely generous community that the Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie has had the privilege to give back millions of dollars and touch countless lives.
