City council has given its approval to a reworked rezoning application from local developers John Martella and Joe Ruscio regarding a high-rise development.
The development is a scaled back version for what was first proposed for the property located on the northwest corner of MacDonald and Gladstone Avenues.
The developers are looking to construct an 8-storey 65-unit apartment building—-that’s down from the 12-storey 90 unit complex first proposed and the apartment complex will be geared for seniors.
The applicants also sought and received council’s approval to amend the Official Plan by eliminating the requirement that at least 30% of the proposed dwellings be affordable.
The vote in approving the application was 9 to 1 with only ward 2 councillor Lisa Vezeau-Allen voting against it and there were four area residents that addressed council opposing the application.
When the original application was approved last April by council it was appealed to the province’s Local Planning Appeal Tribunal.
