The Sault Police Service plan to take a discretionary and graduated approach when it comes to enforcing a provincial emergency order in response to the pandemic to limit all gatherings to five people.
Chief Hugh Stevenson says when they receive a complaint they will try to make first contact by phone and they will initially issue a warning.
The Police Chief says failure to comply will lead to charges which carry some weight—–a first offense carries a minimum fine of 750 dollars.
The are some exceptions to the emergency order under the province’s Emergency Management Civil Protection Act.
The order does not apply to households and there are exceptions for child care centres still operating and for funerals.
