UnitedWaySault Ste. Marie is the latest stop for a father and son cycling across Canada.  Cyclists Rob and Andrew Hood from Kamloops, B-C were expected to arrive in the Sault Sunday night or sometime Monday morning from Marquette, Michigan as part of a cross-country trip in support of Rob’s daughter — Andrew’s sister.  Maddie was only 19 when she died nearly three years ago, but she had a long history of wanting to help people.  She was able to direct the energy to help through the local United Way in St. Catherine’s, as she was preparing to attend university in the fall of 2012.  Maddie is remembered for her work in helping people and wanting to make the world a better place.  During her time with the United Way in St. Catherine’s, Maddie helped prepare a report ‘Living in Niagara 2011’.  It highlighted research and trends affecting the region’s vibrancy and quality of life.  Maddie’s father and brother are hoping people will join him along the way as donations are being collected for a fund established in Maddie’s honour.  Proceeds will go back to local communities and will support youth/student work opportunities.
