CitySSMA request is being made for the financing of components that were eliminated from the construction phase of the Northern Community Centre to be referred to the 2015 City Budget.  Those components total 615 thousand dollars and include air conditioning and the purchase of electrical components that are required to activate the emergency mobile generator in a civic emergency. Other financial issues consider will consider this evening include a pair of actions concerning input for the 2016 City Budget.  Those actions include staff reviewing the method of community engagement and a review of a community engagement tool with a plan to use it be place for this fall.

A traffic issue is highlighted on the council agenda on Monday.  A request is being made to decide on the best way from traffic from the P-Patch subdivision to connect to Northern Avenue.  The issue comes up as a result of a traffic study that suggested the intersection of Pine Street and Pleasant Drive did not warrant traffic signals. It’s also in response to access in and out of the P-Patch from Pine Street continues to be a concern for affected residents.

A number of community groups will be asked to mention a special designation when possible.  That request comes in a report from the city’s Community Services Department.  It wants organizations like the Sault YMCA and the Arts Council to mention the Play Works Youth Friendly Program Platinum Designation when promoting Sault Ste. Marie.  This is an upgrade from the Gold designation that was awarded in 2009.  The Youth Friendly Community Recognition Program recognizes communities in Ontario that meet the needs of youth age 13 to 19.  A detailed report summarizing the department’s review of the idea is expected to be ready sometime next month.
