(SAULT STE. MARIE, ON, CAN – March 14, 2017): Assemble your team and join us for your chance to win money and prizes in the UMG Sault Ste. Marie Pro-Am! UP and UMG Media Corp are excited to announce Sault Ste. Marie’s first ever eSports event, taking place at the Machine Shop at Mill Square on April 8th and 9th, 2017. The tournament will have a $10 000 prize pool and be the first of five in UMG’s Northern Ontario eSports tour.
The marquee event of the weekend is the Call of Duty Infinite Warfare Open, a Pro-Am tournament that will pit amateur teams against one another in an elimination tournament format. The top three teams will share in the $10 000 prize pool, taking home $6000 (1st), $3000 (2nd) and $1000 (3rd). If your team can emerge victorious, you’ll have an opportunity to win additional prizes as well as some serious bragging rights.
The UMG Sault Ste. Marie Pro-Am is an amateur tournament open to anyone. The event will also feature Free-For-All stations where solo warriors can play in multiple events over the weekend for additional cash and prizes! Entry fees are $150 for a 4-player team, and include weekend passes to all events, a minimum of two 30-minute games and a shot at $10 000 in prize money. To register visit www.events.umggaming.com/events/ssm.
Not a gamer? This is still an event you won’t want to miss. Spectators are free to enter and to browse the sponsorship booths, watch the live action and cheer on their favourite teams. The tournament will kick off with a screening of the documentary film League of Millions, focusing on the world of eSports and competitive gaming. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion featuring professionals from the eSports, gaming and entertainment sectors, focused on competitive gaming and the eSports industry. To register for your weekend spectator pass, please visit the registration page at www.events.umggaming.com/events/ssm.
The event also serves as a platform to generate interest around the opportunities available in lottery and gaming in Sault Ste. Marie. “UP is partnering with UMG to run these events, which will be exciting for the communities they’re in, but the win for UP is the capture of local talent who might be interested in career opportunities in our growing industry cluster,” said Leo Tiberi, Executive Lead at UP.
Spots are limited for both registrants and spectators, so register today! If you’re coming in from out of town, be sure to book with our official lodging partner, Quattro Hotel and Conference Centre at 705-942-2500 or the Holiday Inn Express for discounted room rates.
Please note that Call of Duty features graphic content – therefore anyone under the age of 17 who wishes to participate or enter the venue as a spectator will need a consent form signed by a parent or legal guardian, which can be found on the registration webpage as well as at the door.
