Sault MP Terry Sheehan in promoting the Trudeau Government’s budget this week says changes designed to better protect Canadian Steel producers from dumping is a priority with legislation to be introduced as early as April…

 

Sheehan says there is a package of measures in the budget to enhance the effectiveness of Canada’s trade remedy system——the measures proposed include both regulatory and legislative amendments.
He says trade remedy amendments proposed in the budget are aimed to better secure existing employment levels for our two major employers which for Tenaris now numbers over 400 with the potential for growth through strengthen measures to combat steel dumping.
Our local MP adds the budget also lays the ground work for additional steel jobs outside of our two major employers…

 

Sheehan says the budget calls for a 1.3 billion dollar investment over a 5-year period for advanced manufacturing which the Canadian steel industry is very interested in tapping into.

She says there are some things in the federal budget that the NDP had been asking for like more childcare spaces and funds for affordable housing…

 

The Trudeau government is committing 11.2 billion dollars more on new and existing housing units over the coming decade however the majority of the funds isn’t slated to be spent until after 2022.
