The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service would like to invite you to Police Day 2016. This one day event takes place on Tuesday May 17th 2016 at the Station Mall, from 12pm -8pm.
Opening ceremonies will be held in the center court at the Station Mall at 12pm. The opening ceremony will consist of piping, anthem singing, and welcoming remarks from Chief of Police Robert Keetch to over 50 community partners participating as well as to the public in attendance.
May 15 to 21 has been designated as Police Week in Ontario. Police Week started in 1970 and it is observed every year in May to coincide with Peace Officers Memorial Day, which is recognized internationally on May 15. This year’s theme, Discover Policing for Safer Communities, provides an opportunity for communities to discover the many ways police are working to keep their community safe. All citizens are asked to take an active role in helping create a safer community.
“Safe communities are not achieved by police doing their jobs alone. We believe in community policing. It’s what we do. For community policing to have a positive impact on our communities, we need individuals, families, businesses, and community groups to work together.” Says Chief Keetch
We hope that all community members can come out and participate in Police Day 2016. There will be over 50 organizations/agencies participating in this one day event, each providing displays and information for the public. In addition there will be police and emergency vehicles on display inside and in the parking of the Station Mall. At the event there will be a “Dress like a Cop” photo booth for kids and a youth bike draw provided by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.
