Highway 548 to Hilton Beach was reopened last evening after being closed most the day after hydro wires were knocked down in a single vehicle accident.  Traffic was able to get around the site by way of side roads. But the Trans Canada is shutdown in both directions just east of Nipigon – about an hour out of Thunder Bay after an expansion joint on a new bridge failed., causing the eastern half of the bridge to rise about 2 feet. It’ll likely be a couple days before it can be fixed.   The community centre in Nipigon has been opened to offer shelter to those who are stranded.
