A cut in the budget of the City’s Economic Development Corporation was approved at a special meeting of city council last night as part of a plan to change the way economic development is pursued in the Sault.
The decision will see the EDC’s budget slashed by almost 445-thousand dollars from what was a 1.7-million dollar budget—-the city’s contribution to the Sault Innovation Centre will remain at over 277-thousand dollars.
Also as part of the plan, negotiations will take place with both economic development agencies to improve on agreements with the city or memorandums of understanding that improve accountability and better measure performance.
The money removed from the EDC budget will be reallocated to other economic development initiatives from those set out in the Community adjustment Committee report—-details will be spelled out at the council meeting later this month.
