CitySSM  City council will consider at Monday’s meeting a reduction to the sanitory sewer surcharge rate that appears on PUC monthly bills.  The report from the city’s CAO Al Horsman recommends the current surcharge that is set at 100% of water usage be reduced to 70% of the full water charge and be put in place as of the beginning of the new year.  It is further recommended that the rate be reviewed and updated on an annual basis.  It will mean a reduction of $12 per month or $144 per year  for those using 20-cubic metres of water per month.  This recommended option will result in the lowest percentage charged since 1982 and is projected to meet operating and capital requirements without the need of long-term debt financing.
