SAHIn May 2015, Sault Area Hospital (SAH) was awarded Accreditation with Commendation after an assessment by the Accreditation Canada Survey team. Accreditation is a voluntary process that hospitals use to evaluate their services against national standards of excellence.

In the spring, SAH met over 99% of the 2,300 applicable standards and had an opportunity to achieve ‘Exemplary Standing’, which is the highest Accreditation Canada designation. To potentially achieve the standing of ‘Exemplary’ SAH was required to submit further evidence.

This work was completed, and evidence was submitted to Accreditation Canada.

SAH is pleased to announce that the Accreditation Decision Committee has reviewed the evidence and has awarded SAH

Accredited with Exemplary Standing. “Receiving Exemplary Standing highlights the dedication made by our entire team to ensure SAH is an excellent place to receive care and practice medicine,” says Dr. Heather O’Brien.

This is the first time that SAH has received the highest Accreditation distinction. Last year, only 16% of the 1,100 Canadian hospitals who took part in Accreditation received exemplary standing.
