The Sault Ste. Marie Professional Fire Fighter’s Association will be making a request to have a former Fire Marshall for the Province of Ontario address city council and make the case opposing the fire chief’s realingment plan.  Pat Burke from Windsor has almost 43-years of fire service experience and was hired by the fire fighters union to review the chief’s plan to reduce the department and add to the ranks of the EMS operation.  Burke suggests an independent risk analysis needs to be carried out to provide a complete an accurate assessment of the plan’s impact on public safety, fire fighter safety, insurance gradings and liability.  Burke says Fire Chief Figliola is incorrect when he states the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshall has not accepted the National Fire Protection Association 1710 Standard which establishes minimum staffing levels required for simultaneous fire suppression and rescue.
