The Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie gives $30,000 to local child development centre
The Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie is celebrating its 100th anniversary by giving back $100,000 through its program Rotary Gives 100 to the community that has supported its efforts for a century.
On Tuesday, the Rotary Club presented THRIVE Child Development Centre with a $30,000 donation.
“THRIVE Child Development Centre, the THRIVE Foundation, THRIVE’s Board of Directors, staff, clients and families wish to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie for their ongoing and unwavering support of our local Children’s Treatment Centre,” shared Christianne Monico, CEO of THRIVE, “Rotary helps THRIVE meet the needs of children and youth with diverse abilities to reach beyond their potential to their own personal extraordinary. THRIVE services over 1,200 children annually and Rotary’s $30,000 donation will go a long way to help those with special needs and their families.”
THRIVE Child Development Centre opened its doors in 1952, as a project of the Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie, the Sault Ste. Marie Public Board of Education and a local group of physicians. The goal of the project was to provide therapy services to children with physical disabilities who were attending school. The Centre, initially called “The Rotary Children’s Centre”, was incorporated in 1983 as a free standing Children’s Treatment Centre funded by the Ministry of Health. Rotary continues to support THRIVE through their fundraising efforts, including the McDougall Energy Rotary Charity Golf Classic.
For 100 years, the Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie has fostered service, leadership, and good works in our community. Founded in 1918, our mandate to support children with physical disabilities has been the heart behind the hard work of hundreds of Rotarians spanning generations.
It is only because of dedicated Rotarians, tireless volunteers, and our extremely generous community that the Rotary Club of Sault Ste. Marie has had the privilege to give back millions of dollars and touch countless lives. Thank you for being part of our first 100 years of service.
