The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service and area law enforcement partners along with the United States Coast Guard Sector Sault Sainte Marie and the Sault Region Area Maritime Security Committee (ASMC) will be hosting a Full Scale Area Maritime Security Exercise on the 8th of September, 2016 from 8 am to 4 pm in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. This exercise will focus on a simulated security incident along the St. Mary’s River. Numerous Federal, State, Local, Tribal, and Canadian Agencies will participate. The purpose of this exercise is to validate the Sault Region Area Maritime Security Plan (AMSP) and local, state, and regional plans and procedures in relationship with a Transportation Security Incident (TSI) in the Sault Region.
Multiple exercise areas throughout the city of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan have been identified, to include Lake Superior State University, the immediate area around the International Bride, the CN Rail Yard, and the Carbide Dock. Multiple Law Enforcement vessels will operate in and along the St. Mary’s River exercising safety zone enforcement capabilities. Additional training operations will be conducted at Harvey Marina in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. The purpose of this exercise is to validate existing response plans and policies triggered by a significant security incident in the local area. The public may expect to see an increased Law Enforcement presence throughout the area.
